![]() ![]() In the near future, junior politician Donald (an unfortunately distracting choice of character name – who would’ve guessed?) is tasked by his mentor with work on a secret project. ![]() ‘First Shift – Legacy’ shifts (haha) between two perspectives. In ‘Shift,’ we get to find out how it all happened. If you’ve read ‘Wool’ you know the scenario: survivors of a mysterious apocalypse living in massive underground silos, struggling to survive in the face of social oppression, dwindling resources and mechanical decay. I also recommend reading ‘Wool’ first, even though the events here precede it chronologically. ![]() ‘Shift’ contains three parts, ‘Legacy,’ ‘Order,’ and ‘Pact.’ Each is also available as a separate publication, but I recommend the omnibus edition. Read this follow-up to “Wool” for post-apocalyptic book club. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Illustration by Fay Dalton from The Folio Society edition of Moonraker by Ian Fleming ©Fay Dalton 2017 But when two men die at the ‘Moonraker’ plant in a bizarre murder-suicide, just days before the weapon’s practice shoot, Bond must uncover the terrible truth of Drax’s enterprise and the dark history behind his abominable plans. When M asks Bond to find out why this illustrious man cheats at cards, his concern is only for Drax’s reputation. Sir Hugo Drax is a national hero: the self-made millionaire whose gift of a nuclear warhead promises a new era of peace for a nation afraid of a third world war. This fourth title in the 007 collectors’ series, the luxurious Moonraker edition features once again original illustrations and a pictorial slipcase by acclaimed illustrator Fay Dalton. Eagerly awaiting new releases from The Folio Society, Bond Lifestyle takes a closer look at the illustrated hardcover edition of Ian Fleming's Moonraker, released in October 2017. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The collection begins and ends with a pair of matched stories, like bookends: Mercy and No Mercy. Like the author himself, the voice of the narrator in most of these stories conveys a kind of worldly-wise androgynous glamour based on layers of paradox. Califia-Rice, who has undergone a gender change from female to male, is a veteran producer of erotic writing which is both profoundly "queer" and relevant to a wide readership. According to the publisher's breathless blurb, this collection of stories is "fiction without a safeword-smart, transgressive, too exciting to be kind." Like the author's previous collections, Macho Sluts: Erotic Fiction and Melting Point: A Collection of Erotic Short Stories, these stories of Dominant/submissive sexuality explore the author's favorite themes in fresh ways. ![]() |
